Celebrate the Spring Equinox with a Ritual of the Elements

Light Is Sneaking Back to Triumph Over Darkness Once Again

Harness its power and celebrate with us the Spring Equinox, which falls on March 21st, and the period around it. It’s the time of light, the energy of Fire and the Sun, inviting you to create your transition ritual. This ritual can energetically support you through any challenge or change. Let’s explore how to use the ancient pagan festival of Ostara to celebrate the new and welcome spring.

This is a time when the sleeping awakens and a surge of new spring energy arrives. The Sun returns, as does Fire. Therefore, the celebrations of the ancient pagan ritual of Ostara are closely associated with the element of fire. It was a time of boisterous celebrations, Easter bonfires, and red wine, as well as spring ritual cleansing—Water. While fire ignites the spark of strength, courage, and passion for the new and burns away the old, water brings energy, and robust health, and carries away what is unnecessary. Let’s harness their powerful energy. We have a guide for a strong ritual that incorporates both elements to support your vision.

Spring Ritual of Fire and Water:

This period is the perfect time for cleansing your home, so prepare your favorite incense or Palo Santo. Invite crystals in green and red colors. A red obsidian obelisk is excellent for health, complemented by green amazonite for protection and success. Ready?

TIP from Sacred Gallery: If you're looking for a ritual set with everything you need and a specific intention, choose one of our gift sets. How about the "Clear Dreams and Visions" set or the "Energetic Cleansing" set?

Next, it’s time to choose a location. Celebrate in nature, preferably near water and a fire pit. To prepare an outdoor altar, use a table or a tree stump. If you can't find such a spot, you can conduct the ritual comfortably at home—replace water with a shower and fire with a candle. Then, decorate the altar with candles and crystals. Place a piece of paper and a pencil on it, and don’t forget fresh spring flowers.

Sit in front of the altar. Take your time for yourself and focus your attention inward. Take three deep breaths, feeling where you are and where the spring energy is leading you. Start the ritual with a cleansing of yourself and the space around you. Using the smoke of the incense, let go of negative energy. You can use a smudge fan for thorough energetic cleansing and to remove all influences from the space. Close your eyes, and as the smoke carries away the accumulated darkness of winter, take a moment to pause, thank winter, and welcome spring. Allow yourself some time for your inner space; just be for a moment.

When you’re ready, open your eyes and reflect: on the prepared paper, write down everything that can leave you. What do you no longer need in your life? Leave it on the altar for now and move on to the Water cleansing. This can be immersing your feet in a stream, walking in the dew, or taking a shower. Allow yourself to feel its power and don’t forget to ask for health and energy for the coming period. When you sense it’s time to move on to the next step, return to the altar and light the candles or fire. Feel the warmth of the Fire element, thank it for courage, and burn everything that no longer serves you—including your list of unnecessary things. Feel the power of change, nature, and the space around you. What is different now? Finally, take this beautiful time for yourself and celebrate the Spring Equinox and the influx of new energy with music, dance, and meditation.

Don’t want to celebrate alone? Invite friends and celebrate Ostara together. Don’t forget to dress in green and red and paint eggs together as a symbol of new beginnings. And what kind of beginnings will they be? We wish for them to be just as you desire. The Spring Equinox ritual will help you with that.

Wishing you beautiful spring celebrations,
Your Sacred Gallery
